Universal Pictures announce Weird Science remake

The remakes just keep on coming for Hollywood and for us long-suffering film fans as John Hughes becomes the latest renowned director to have one of his films be given a makeover….

Last night, Universal Pictures announced that Hughes’s 1985 sci-fi comedy Weird Science would be getting remade with original producer Joel Silver back on board to oversee the project via his company Silver Pictures.

The film’s script will be penned by 21 Jump Street screenwriter Michael Bacall as he also prepares to write the sequel to last year’s surprise hit comedy.

The original Weird Science starred Anthony Michael Hall (a regular Hughes actor) and Ilan Mitchell-Smith as two geeks who decide to create their fantasy woman Lisa (Kelly LeBrock) after being inspired by Frankenstein. The film also featured early screen roles for Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man trilogy, Sherlock Holmes) and Bill Paxton (Aliens, Twister).

No news has been given yet about when the remake will be released or who will star in it….
