Gemma Arterton and Saoirse Ronan play mother and daughter vampires in new trailer for Byzantium

While there may only be a small age gap between them, British actresses Gemma Arterton and Saoirse Ronan are both surprisingly playing mother and daughter in the upcoming horror-thriller Byzantium. Not only that, but they are also playing vampires!

The supernatural flick is directed by Neil Jordan (Mona Lisa, The Crying Game) as he marks his return to vampire films after making the cult-classic Interview with the Vampire (1994B). A new trailer has now been released for the film which shows the two lovely ladies in action.

Based on Moira Buffini’s play, the plot focuses on vampire mother Arterton (Tamara Drewe, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters) and her teenage daughter Ronan (Atonement, The Host) as they go on the run only to end up at a seaside town. However the locals soon discover their secret lives which leads to deadly consequences for those involved.

The film co-stars Johnny Lee Miller (Trainspotting, Elementary), Sam Reilly (Control, Brighton Rock) and Daniel Mays (Atonement, Mrs Biggs) and is set for release in the UK on May 31st.
