The Dream lives on in official trailer for Tom Hooper’s Les Miserables

Those of you who watched Skyfall recently (including myself….twice) would probably have sat through lots of annoying adverts and trailers prior to watching it. However one preview which stood out immensely was the epic new trailer for Tom Hooper’s big-screen adaptation of the beloved musical Les Miserables.

The marketing team did a solid job of not releasing this second trailer online until enough people had seen Skyfall. They have finally resisted and it is now uploaded for your viewing satisfaction!

The film, which is based on both Victor Hugo’s novel and the acclaimed musical, tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption and is a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Set during the French Revolution, it focuses on the convict Jean Valijean (Hugh Jackman) who is hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Oscar-winner Russell Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker/prostitute Fantine’s (Oscar nominee Anne Hathaway) young daughter Cosette, their lives change forever.

As well as featuring those three well-known actors, the films also includes a quality support cast of musical actors including Amanda Seyfried as the older Cosette, Eddie Redmayne as Marius, newcomer Samantha Barks as Eponine and Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter as the Thenardiers.

Once again we get a glimpse of Hathaway singing an emotionally, stunning rendition of the iconic I Dreamed a Dream while we finally get to hear Jackman, Seyfried and even Crowe showcase their vocals too. Despite initial fears that he would sound awful in his musical debut, it looks as though Crowe won’t disappoint at all!

Sadly for us Brits, the Americans will get the film before us when it is released there on Christmas Day. We have to wait a little longer before it is finally released here on January 13th 2013.

Without doubt one of my most anticipated films of 2013. Viva la France!
