Sir Sam Mendes to direct four Beatles films about each member

Beatles fans, it’s time to ‘Come Together’ because ‘I’ve Got a Feeling’ you’re going to love this news….

With music biopics on the rise, it has been officially confirmed that the Fab Four are set to receive the cinematic treatment via four separate films.

In a daring move, Oscar-winning filmmaker Sir Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Skyfall, 1917) will direct each biopic from the perspective of band member’s Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr.

Surviving artists Macca and Ringo, have granted permission and music rights for the four films, along with the families of the late John and George.

Mendes said he was “honoured to be telling the story of the greatest rock band of all time” and added that he was “excited to challenge the notion of what constitutes a trip to the movies”.

Produced by Sony Pictures and Sir Sam’s Neal Street Productions, all four films will be released in 2027 though it is not clear whether they will be unveiled together or spread across the year.

The Beatles formed in 1960 and changed the course of musical history with numerous albums and hit singles, as well as a group of feature films including A Hard Day’s Night (1964), Help! (1965) and Magical Mystery Tour (1967).

Remarkably, this marks the first time that the band and their company Apple Corps have granted full life story and music rights for a scripted film. Beforehand, other Beatles-based biopics like Birth Of The Beatles (1979), John And Yoko – A Love Story (1985) and Backbeat (1994) were made without the group’s backing.

Over fifty years after splitting up, the band have continued to garner success in different platforms from Peter Jackson’s landmark three-part documentary series Get Back (2021), to their chart-topping final single ‘Now and Then’ that was released last year.

News on the castings will be confirmed at a later date though one can hope that they hand four Liverpudlian actors the chance to play these iconic men.

In the meantime, ‘Something’ tells me that I will be paying a ‘Ticket to Ride’ for ALL four films!
