Following the emphatic success of The Avengers at the box-office, Marvel have begun following up the adventures of those characters with sequels to Captain America, Iron Man and Thor on the way.

Earlier, Screen Rant unveiled the plot synopsis for one of those comic-book sequels with the hammer-welding hero Thor’s latest adventure detailed in his follow-up film Thor: The Dark World.

“Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself.

In the aftermath of Marvel’s Thor and Marvel’s The Avengers, Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos… but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness.

Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.”

Chris Hemsworth reprises his role as Thor with Tom Hiddleston (Loki) and Natalie Portman (Jane Foster) being the other major characters back for round two. The rest of the original cast including Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, Stellan Skarsgård and Kat Dennings also return as their respective characters. Christopher Eccleston (Shallow Grave, Doctor Who) is the new addition to the cast playing new villain Malekith.

Game of Thrones director Alan Taylor replaces the first film’s helmer Kenneth Branagh with the release date for the sequel confirmed for November 8th 2013.the
