Les Miserables leads 2012 Satellite Awards with 10 nominations

With awards season finally up and running, one of the lesser prestiged groups have continued to set the ball rolling with the announcement of their nominations.

The Annual Satellite Awards revealed their list of predictable (and strange) nominees for 2012 with Tom Hooper’s upcoming musical epic Les Misérables leading the way with ten nods including Motion Picture as well as acting mentions for Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne and Samantha Barks. Bizarrely though, Hooper was snubbed for Best Director.

Other big Oscar players including Argo, Lincoln (without a Supporting Actress mention for NYFCC winner Sally Field), Silver Linings Playbook and NYFCC Best Picture winner Zero Dark Thirty also did well with nominations. Box-office smash Skyfall earned several nods including the Motion Picture category.

Bradley Cooper, Daniel Day-Lewis, Joaquin Phoenix, Jessica Chastain, Keira Knightley, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Javier Bardem, Amy Adams and Judi Dench are amongst the large group of well-known names short-listed in the four acting categories. Some strange nominees include Laura Linney for the disappointing Hyde Park on Hudson and a trio of unknown actresses getting unlikely attention.
