Siblings Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton tackle witches in trailer for Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters

When it comes to concepts for bizarre film plots, we’ve already seen it in recent times with the likes of Snakes on a Plane (2006) and this year’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Now from this trailer, we have a new film with an unusual twist to it….Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters!

The fantasy-adventure, which is a dark take on the Hansel and Gretel fairytale, stars Oscar-nominated actor Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker, The Avengers) and the luscious Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace, Tamara Drewe) as the two siblings who following their terrifying ordeal with a witch many years ago decide to become vengeful bounty hunters who track down and kill other witches. However they face their toughest challenge yet when an evil sorceress (played by X-Men’s Famke Janssen) plans to sacrifice many local children at the witches’ gathering.

The film does look completely farcical especially with the use of American accents in a medieval setting (though it makes a change seeing Arterton use one) as well as the ridiculously gory violence but it does look like silly fun especially as the brutality is said to be similar to Kill Bill.

And while it’s great seeing Gemma back on our screens, this may be the last time we see Renner in an action film for a long time following his tiring schedule of making explosive popcorn flicks in the past couple of years. The man needs his rest!

The film will be released in 3D on March 15, 2013.
