Hollywood actors’ union SAG-AFTRA approve deal to end historic strike

Film and television fans, the strike is over!

In a crucial turn of events, the Hollywood actors’ union SAG-AFTRA have agreed a tentative three-year deal with Hollywood studios to end a gruelling four-month strike.

Late last night, a unanimous vote was made by the union following a lengthy ordeal that left the entertainment industry paralysed, with delays being made to a number of film and television productions.

The action took place after actors had called for better pay as well as safeguards on the use of AI (Artificial Intelligence).

It is understood that the three-year contract (valued at $1 billion) includes a streaming participation bonus, pay increases for background actors and major provisions for consent & compensation from AI.

The news comes just less than a month after members of the Writers Guild had overwhelming ratified their own agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.

AMPTP said it was pleased to have reached the tentative agreement and looked forward to the industry resuming the work of telling great stories.

It said the deal gave SAG-AFTRA the biggest contract-on-contract gains in the history of the union.

Prior to today’s news, the actors’ union had been on strike since 14 July, with production on a number of films and series delayed as a result. In addition to that, a number of Hollywood stars were unable to attend premieres to promote their projects.

With the strike now over, it is understood that filming is set to resume on various big-screen features including Deadpool 3, Gladiator 2, Beetlejuice 2 and Venom 3.

Congratulations Hollywood. Time to get back to work!
