Back in 2006, Deadwood fans were left stunned when HBO made the surprise decision to cancel the acclaimed western series without giving it a proper conclusion. Those darn c**ks***ers!

Created by David Milch (Hill Street Blues, NYPD Blue), the Golden Globe and Emmy award-winning show was a big hit with critics and audiences prior to HBO’s later success with Entourage (2004-11), Boardwalk Empire (2010-14), True Blood (2008-14) and of course, Game of Thrones (2011-19).

But after all these years, Al Swearengen, Seth Bullock and the good (and bad) people of Deadwood are finally back for a long-awaited television film which is due to air at the end of this month.

Simply entitled Deadwood: The Movie, the official trailer has been released and promises plenty of vulgarity and violence that made the original series so popular!

Written by Milch and directed by Daniel Minahan (True Blood, Game of Thrones), the story takes place ten years after the events of the Series 3 finale as past and present residents of Deadwood are reunited to celebrate South Dakota’s impending entrance into the Union as the 40th state. However tensions arise as Al Swearengen and Sheriff Seth Bullock find themselves reigniting their rivalry while also having to deal with the threat of their old adversary George Hearst.

A large majority of the original cast are back for the film including Ian McShane who reprises his award-winning role as volatile bar owner Al along with Timothy Olyphant as Sheriff Bullock. Additionally, there are also comebacks for Deadwood veterans Molly Parker (Alma Garrett), , W. Earl Brown (Dan Dority), Dayton Callie (Charlie Utter), Kim Dickens (Joanie Stubbs), Brad Dourif (Doc Cochran), Anna Gunn (Martha Bullock), John Hawkes (Sol Star), Jeffrey Jones (A.W. Merrick), Paula Malcomson (Trixie), William Sanderson (E.B. Farnum), Robin Weigert (Calamity Jane), Sean Bridgers (Johnny Burns), Geri Jewell (Jewel), Keone Young (Mr. Wu), Franklin Ajaye (Samuel Fields) and Gerald McRaney (George Hearst).

There are also some new additions to the massive cast which include Lily Keene (Young Sheldon, This is Us) as an adult Sofia Ellsworth plus Tony Curran (Outlaw King, Ray Donovan) and Jade Prettyjohn (School of Rock series, Destroyer) in unspecified roles.

However there are also a number of key actors / characters absent through different circumstances. Powers Boothe (Cy Tolliver) and Ralph Richeson (Richardson) both passed away before filming began on the movie while Leon Rippy (Tom Nuttall), Titus Welliver (Silas Adams) and Brian Cox (Jack Langrishe) were amongst those unable to return because of other commitments.

It will be time to get those peaches open again when Deadwood: The Movie airs on Sky Atlantic on May 31st.
