Fans of the diverse Hollywood star Mel Gibson will find it hard to believe that it’s been ten years since he last directed a film; that being the brutal Aryan thriller Apocalypto (2006).
The Oscar-winning actor/director of Braveheart (1995) and Passion of the Christ (2004) has been through some controversial moments over the years but he is now back behind the camera as he unveils his upcoming war biopic Hacksaw Ridge.
The film, which stars British actor Andrew Garfield (The Social Network, The Amazing Spider-Man) in the lead role, has premiered its official trailer online.
The film depicts the true story of Desmond Doss, an American soldier fighting in Okinawa during World War II who became a conscientious objector after voicing belief that killing was wrong. Despite this, he was still forced to take part in the frontline for which he ended up saving over 70 men without having to use a weapon.
Garfield is supported in the drama by Sam Worthington (Avatar, Everest), Luke Bracey (Home and Away, Point Break), Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies, Triple 9), Hugo Weaving (The Matrix trilogy, Middle Earth saga), Rachel Griffiths (Six Feet Under, Brothers & Sisters), Richard Roxburgh (Moulin Rouge!, Van Helsing) and Vince Vaughn (Wedding Crashers, True Detective).
Hacksaw Ridge will be released in America on November 4th though a UK date has not yet been set.
