Brie Larson officially confirmed as Captain Marvel

A few months after landing her first Oscar win for her powerful performance in the indie drama Room, Brie Larson is looking to strength her mainstream work via the action genre.

The Short Term 12 and Trainwreck star has become the latest high-profile name to join up with the expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe following an announcement made at Comic Con last night.

Better still, her new role is for the biggest female character in Marvel Comics with confirmation finally being made that she will be playing Captain Marvel in a new standalone film.

Those unfamiliar with Captain Marvel only have to know that her current powers include flight, enhanced strength, durability and the ability to shoot concussive energy bursts from her hands.

Larson will next be seen in another action flick as she stars opposite Marvel veterans Tom Hiddleston and Samuel L. Jackson in the upcoming adventure Kong: Skull Island which is due out early next year.

Captain Marvel will be released in cinemas on July 6th 2018.
