Nick and Charlie’s relationship faces its biggest challenge yet in Heartstopper Forever trailer

A bittersweet trailer has arrived for Heartstopper Forever, which serves as the feature-length finale of the beloved Heartstopper television series.

Based on the acclaimed book series by Alice Oseman, the powerful love story between teenagers Nick Nelson and Charlie Spring has captured the ‘hearts’ of readers and audiences for a decade from the release of the original graphic novel in 2016, to the successful Netflix programme that brought three series between 2022 and 2024.

Plans were initially made for a fourth series, though Netflix opted to commission a feature-length film to bring the story to a close.

Written by Oseman and directed by Wash Westmoreland (Still Alice, Colette), the plot sees Nick and Charlie’s relationship face its biggest test yet as Nick prepares to leave for university, while Charlie finds new independence at school. As the pair try to navigate a long-distance romance, their friends experience their own ups and downs of love and friendship.

As expected, central stars Kit Connor and Joe Locke reprise their breakout roles as Nick and Charlie respectively, and are joined by fellow Heartstopper returnees Yasmin Finney as Elle Argent, William Gao as Tao Xu, Corinna Brown as Tara Jones, Kizzy Edgell as Darcy Olsson, Tobie Donovan as Isaac Henderson, Rhea Norwood as Imogen Heaney, Jenny Walser as Tori Spring, Fisayo Akinade as Mr. Ajayi, Nima Taleghani as Mr. Farouk, Leila Khan as Sahar Zahid, Bradley Riches as James McEwan, Darragh Hand as Michael Holden and Eddie Marsan as Geoff Young.

In a bold move by the casting department, two-time BAFTA winner Anna Maxwell Martin (Bleak House, Motherland) takes over the role of Sarah Nelson, Nick’s mother, after fan favourite Olivia Colman was unable to return for the film.

Additionally, Sir Derek Jacobi (I, Claudius, Last Tango to Halifax) is also set to feature in an undisclosed role.

In the meantime, Heartstopper fans will be hoping for a happy ending for a number of characters when Heartstopper Forever hits Netflix on 17 July.
