Anthony Ippolito transforms into a pre-fame Sylvester Stallone in I Play Rocky trailer

A knockout trailer has premiered for I Play Rocky.

The upcoming factual drama explores the tumultuous production of the beloved sports drama Rocky (1976), and how it led to one of the greatest underdog stories in cinematic history.

Directed by Peter Farrelly (Dumb and Dumber, Green Book), the story focuses on how struggling actor Sylvester Stallone wrote the screenplay for Rocky, and took it upon himself to convince the studio heads to allow him to take on the central role of boxer Rocky Balboa.

Rising star Anthony Ippolito steps into the daunting shoes of Stallone after previously portraying a young Al Pacino in the Paramount+ miniseries The Offer (2022).

Additionally, the rest of the film’s cast includes Stephen James (If Beale Street Could Talk, Homecoming) as Carl Weathers, AnnaSophia Robb (Bridge to Terabithia, Rebel Ridge) as Sasha Czack, Matt Dillon (There’s Something About Mary, Crash) as Frank Stallone Sr., P.J. Byrne (The Wolf of Wall Street, The Boys) as Irwin Winkler, Toby Kebbell (Dead Man’s Shoes, RocknRolla) as Robert Chartoff, Jay Duplass (Transparent, Dying for Sex) as John G. Avildsen, Kiki Seto (The Studio) as Talia Shire, Scott Teller (Creed II, 21 Bridges) as Burt Young, Robert Morgan (Hacksaw Ridge, The Accountant 2) as Burgess Meredith and Tracy Letts (Lady Bird, Little Women) as Sandy Maddox.

I Play Rocky will look to pack a punch with audiences fifty years after the original release of Rocky when it arrives in UK cinemas on 20 November.
