A mouthwatering new trailer has premiered for Avengers: Doomsday.

The long-anticipated fifth instalment in the epic Avengers series comes towards the end of Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and brings a host of familiar faces onboard for the ride.

Helmed by director siblings Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, the plot sees groups of heroes from three different universes—the Avengers, Wakandans, and New Avengers from Earth-616; the Fantastic Four from Earth-828; and the “original” X-Men from a separate universe as they all converge to face the existential threat of Doctor Doom.

In one of the boldest moves in cinematic history, Robert Downey Jr. makes a surprise comeback to the blockbuster franchise as the sinister Doom after his previously-successful stint as Tony Stark / Iron Man.

Despite his character’s initial ‘retirement’ at the end of Avengers: Endgame (2019), fan favourite Chris Evans is also returning to the MCU as Steve Rogers alongside fellow Avengers veteran Chris Hemsworth as Thor.

Additionally, a number of other long-serving franchise stars are also back for the new epic including Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson / Captain America, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang / Ant-Man, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Letitia Wright as Shuri / Black Panther, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi and Tom Hiddleston as Loki.

Elsewhere, the cast members of recent Marvel outings The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps are also set to appear after making their MCU debuts last year.

In the case of Fantastic Four, Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards / Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm / Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm / Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm / The Thing) are all involved, while the Thunderbolts* team are represented by Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), David Harbour (Red Guardian), Wyatt Russell (U.S. Agent), Lewis Pullman (Sentry), and Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost).

As previously reported, several members of the original X-Men cast are FINALLY set to make their bow in the MCU, with veteran stars Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen both onboard as Charles Xavier / Professor X and Magneto respectively.

Fellow X-Men co-stars Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), Kelsey Grammer (Beast), James Marsden (Cyclops), and Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler) also feature alongside Channing Tatum, who recently made his long-awaited Marvel debut as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024).

Finally, the rest of the extraordinary ensemble is rounded off by other recent Marvel favourites including Winston Duke (M’Baku), Danny Ramirez (Joaquín Torres / Falcon), Kathryn Newton (Cassie Lang) and Tenoch Huerta (Namor)

Once again, Avengers fans will look to assemble when Avengers: Doomsday is released in cinemas worldwide on 18 December.
