Will Smith trains the Williams sisters to tennis glory in King Richard trailer

As two of the most successful female athletes of all time, the Williams sisters have certainly achieved a lot in their careers as tennis professionals.

Between them, Venus and Serena have won twelve Wimbledon singles titles, as well as eight US Open titles and many more. The man behind all that incredible success is their father Richard whose story is now the subject of an upcoming biopic.

Entitled King Richard, the film’s official trailer has landed and shows Hollywood superstar Will Smith (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Men in Black trilogy, Ali) in awards-worthy mode as Richard.

Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green (Top Boy, Good Joe Bell), the film focuses on how Richard coached Venus and Serena into becoming tennis stars from a young age as they went on to achieve major honours worldwide.

The film’s support cast includes Jon Bernthal (The Wolf of Wall Street, The Punisher), Tony Goldwyn (Ghost, Scandal), Dylan McDermott (The Practice, Hollywood), Aunjanue Ellis (When They See Us, Lovecraft Country), Susie Abromeit (Jessica Jones, The Forever Purge) and Kevin Dunn (Transformers series, Veep).

Additionally, the key roles of Venus and Serena are played by rising starlets Saniyya Sidney (Hidden Figures, Fences) and Demi Singleton (Goldie, Godfather of Harlem).

King Richard is scheduled for release in America on 19 November while the UK date has yet to be confirmed.
