Robert Carlyle’s Gaz and co. return for new shenanigans on the small-screen in The Full Monty series trailer

Ladies and gentlemen, the boys are back in town!

In 1997, audiences didn’t know what to expect when The Full Monty first arrived in cinemas. What could a film about a group of unemployed Sheffield men performing in a Chippendale-style show possibly achieve?

Within weeks of its release, the British dramedy had become a major box-office hit and would later make big money over in America. Further down the road, the film would go on to land multiple Oscar nominations as well as three BAFTA wins (including Best Film).

Over 25 years on, The Full Monty is finally returning in the unlikely form of a Disney series with a majority of the original cast back onboard. After a long wait, an official trailer for the eight-part series is finally here.

Created by original co-writer Simon Beaufoy, the plot promises to “uncover what happened to the gang after they put their kit back on, exploring their brighter, sillier and more desperate moments. It will also highlight how the fiercely funny world of these working-class heroes — still residing in Sheffield — has changed in the intervening decades.”

As expected, BAFTA winner Robert Carlyle reprises his popular role as gang leader Gaz alongside Mark Addy as Dave, Paul Barber as Horse, Steve Huison as Lomper, Will Snape as Nathan, Lesley Sharp as Jean, Bruce Jones as Reg, and BAFTA winner Tom Wilkinson as Gerald.

However, original cast member Hugo Speer is NOT returning as Guy after being dropped from the reboot over claims of “inappropriate conduct” last year.

The series does feature a number of new cast additions including Talitha Wing (Alex Rider, Wolfe) as Gaz’s teenage daughter Destiny, Paul Clayton (Peep Show, The Crown) as Lomper’s husband Dennis, Miles Jupp (Rev., A Very British Scandal) as Darren, Sophie Stanton (EastEnders, Brexit: The Uncivil War) as Hetty, Phillip Rhys Chaudhary (24, Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists) as Dilip, and Tupele Dorgu (Coronation Street, Alma’s Not Normal) as Destiny’s mother Yaz.

The Full Monty series will premiere on Disney+ from 14 June.
