Gemma Chan and Richard Madden lead an immortal alien race in new trailer for Marvel’s The Eternals

Earlier this year, Chloé Zhao made history by becoming the first non-white woman to win the Best Director Oscar for her work on the indie-drama Nomadland.

The Chinese filmmaker has now turned her attention to the Marvel Cinematic Universe by helming the upcoming comic-book adventure The Eternals.

Bolstering a diverse and talented cast, the film’s new full-length trailer has dropped and promises to focus on a different kind of Marvel story compared to its predecessors.

The plot centres on the Eternals, an immortal alien race who have secretly lived on Earth for over 7,000 years as they reunite to protect humanity from their evil counterparts, the Deviants.

Gemma Chan (Crazy Rich Asians, Captain Marvel) and Richard Madden (Game of Thrones, Bodyguard) spearhead the film’s diverse cast which also includes Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley, The Big Sick), Lia McHugh (American Woman, The Lodge), Brian Tyree Henry (This is Us, Joker), Lauren Ridloff (The Walking Dead, Sound of Metal), Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk, Calm with Horses), Don Lee (Train to Busan, The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil), Kit Harington (Game of Thrones, Criminal: UK), Salma Hayek (Desperado, Frida) and Oscar winner Angelina Jolie (Changeling, Maleficent).

Additionally, the key role of composer has been handed to Emmy winner Ramin Djawadi (Game of Thrones, Westworld).

The Eternals will be released in the UK in 5 November.
