Ewan McGregor plays an adult Danny Torrance in official trailer for Shining sequel Doctor Sleep

Back in 1980, audiences were left terrified by the sight of a deranged Jack Nicholson hammering through a door and bellowing out the epic line “Here’s Johnny!” in the creepy Stanley Kubrick horror The Shining.

Adapted from the acclaimed novel by Stephen King, the film went through a difficult production and was even slated by the author when it was released.

Since then, King has penned a follow-up novel focusing on one particular character from the original story which has finally been made into a film.

Entitled Doctor Sleep, the sequel has unveiled a creepy trailer which includes shots from its masterful predecessor….

Directed by Mike Flanagan (Oculus, Gerald’s Game), the film stars Ewan McGregor (Trainspotting, Star Wars prequel trilogy) as an adult Danny Torrance who endured a traumatic time at the Overlook Hotel when he was a child (played in the original by Danny Lloyd). Having developed the ‘shining’ ability, he meets a young girl with similar powers as his and tries to protect her from a cult known as The True Knot who prey on children with powers to remain immortal.

McGregor is joined in the cast by Rebecca Ferguson (The Girl on the Train, Mission: Impossible – Fallout), Jacob Tremblay (Wonder, Predator), Kyliegh Curran (I Can I Will I Did), Zahn McClarnon (Fargo, Westworld), Emily Alyn Lind (Code Black, Replicas), Bruce Greenwood (Star Trek, The Resident) and Alex Essoe (Midnighters, Red Island) as Wendy Torrance.

There could well be plenty of ‘redrum’ when Doctor Sleep is released in the UK on Halloween.
