Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron lead the new-look Baywatch team in Baywatch trailer

In recent years, Hollywood has had mixed fortunes when it comes to giving classic television shows the big-screen reboot. Sometimes the results have been positive like Star Trek (2009) and 21 Jump Street (2012) though other times they have been messy e.g. The Flintstones (1994) and Yogi Bear (2010).

But the latest hit programme to receive the reboot treatment is Baywatch. The beach-based action series, which ran from 1989 to 2001, was famed for its scantly-clad characters (in red trunks / bikins) and career-making roles for David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson.

The new-look outing is being led by two of Hollywood’s hunkiest men in Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson (Baller, Fast and Furious series) and Zac Efron (High School Musical trilogy, Bad Neighbours) with the official trailer available to view below:

Directed by Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses, Identity Thief), the plot sees Johnson play devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchanan as he butts heads with a brash new recruit (Efron). Together, the pair must try to uncover a local criminal plot that threatens the future of the Bay.

Lovely ladies Alexandra Daddario (True Detective, San Andreas), Priyanka Chopra (Quantico), Ilfenesh Hadera (Oldboy, Billions) and Kelly Rohrbach (Two and a Half Men, The PET Squad Files) also feature in the film along with original Baywatch stars Hasselhoff (Mitch Buchanan) and Anderson (C.J Parker).

Baywatch will be released in the UK on 12th May 2017.
