For many film fans, it’s hard to believe that it’s been almost a decade since Michael Bay unveiled the first big-screen outing of the popular toy franchise Tranformers (2007).

Whilst the action blockbuster was well-received by critics and audiences, the film’s three sequels (Revenge of the Fallen, Dark of the Moon and Age of Extinction) have all ended up being ridiculed.

But despite the woeful reviews, the series has garnered a lot of box-office success which has led to the arrival of a fifth film that coincides with the ten year anniversary of the original installment’s release.

Entitled Transformers: The Last Knight, the official trailer is now available to view below:

Directed for the final time by Bay, the plot sees Mark Wahlberg return as Age of Exinction hero Cade Yeager as he, Optimus Prime and the Autobots try to find an ancient artifact that could help to bring the Aubobot’s planet back to life.

There is a strong mixture of old and new characters appearing in the sequel with Josh Duhamel (Lt. Colonel William Lennox), Tyrese Gibson (Sgt. Robert Epps), John Turturro (Agent Simmons) and Stanley Tucci (Joshua Joyce) amongst the Transformers veterans returning.

There’s also the vocal contributions from the likes of Frank Welker (Megatron), John Goodman (Hound), Ken Watanabe (Drift) and of course, Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime).

Oscar-winner Anthony Hopkins (Silence of the Lambs trilogy, Westworld) leads the group of newcomers to the franchise which also include Laura Haddock (The Inbetweeners Movie, Da Vinci’s Demons), Isabela Moner (100 Things to do Before High School, Legends of the Hidden Temple), Santiago Cabrera (Heroes, The Musketeers), Gil Birmingham (Twilight trilogy, Hell or High Water), Liam Garrigan (Holby City, Once Upon a Time) and Jerrod Carmichael (Bad Neighbors, The Carmichael Show).

Transformers: The Last Knight will be released in cinemas on 23rd June 2017.
