Bridesmaids and The Hunger Games lead MTV Movie Awards nominations

In recent years, the MTV Movie Awards have lost some credibility due to its ridiculous obsession with the Twilight Saga. But this year, they’ve redeemed themselves with some intriguing nominations with the rom-com smash Bridesmaids and the recent box-office hit The Hunger Games securing eight nods each.

Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part I does pop up now and then but thankfully its overshadowed by ‘Maids and Games while there’s recognition for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two, The Help and 21 Jump Street in major categories.

Amongst the stars getting multiple nods include Kristen Wiig (Female Performance, Comedy Performance), Emma Stone (Female Performance, Best Kiss), Ryan Gosling (Male Performance, Best Kiss, WTF Moment), Jonah Hill (Comedy Performance, Best Fight), Melissa McCarthy (Breakthrough Performance, Comedy Performance), Jennifer Lawrence (Female Performance, Best Kiss), Rooney Mara (Female Performance, Breakthrough Performance, On-screen transformation) and Bryce Dallas Howard (WTF Moment and On-screen dirt-bag).

On reflection, I’m pleased to see Bridesmaids and The Help get recognised though I doubt they’ll do too well with Harry Potter and Hunger Games likely to dominate. Rather surprising to see 21 Jump Street get a lot of attention though it was more popular with the Americans than other here. Great to see mention for Rooney Mara who should easily win On-screen transformation for Dragon Tattoo while Bryce Dallas Howard FINALLY gets noticed for her despicable performance in The Help.

The MTV Movie Awards will be on June 4th. Here is the list of nominees with my winners predictions in bold….
