Benedict Cumberbatch portrays famous cat artist Louis Wain in The Electrical Life of Louis Wain trailer

Over the years, Benedict Cumberbatch has portrayed a number of revered real-life individuals, including Stephen Hawking, Julian Assage and Alan Turing.

The Oscar-nominated star of Sherlock (2010-17), The Imitation Game (2014) and The Mauritanian (2021) has returned to the biopic genre with his new role as eccentric British artist Louis Wain in an upcoming film.

Entitled The Electrical Life of Louis Wain, the factual drama’s official trailer has premiered online.

Helmed by BAFTA-winning filmmaker Will Sharpe (Flowers, Landscapers), the film follows the life of Wain as he attempted to find success as an inventor and caretaker. After adopting a stray cat, he then went on to paint extraordinary images of cats that made him world-famous.

No stranger to biopic roles, Claire Foy (The Crown, First Man) co-stars as Wain’s devoted wife Emily Richardson with additional support coming from Andrea Riseborough (Birdman, National Treasure), Toby Jones (Marvellous, Detectorists), Sophia Di Martino (Flowers, Loki), Adeel Ahktar (Four Lions, Murdered by My Father), Hayley Squires (I, Daniel Blake, Adult Material), Jamie Demetriou (Stath Lets Flats, Eurovision), Aimee Lou Wood (Sex Education), Sharon Rooney (My Mad Fat Diary, Dumbo), Julian Barratt (The Mighty Boosh, Flowers), Asim Chaudhry (People Just Do Nothing, Black Mirror: Bandernsatch), Dorothy Atkinson (Mr. Turner, Mum) and Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit, Free Guy). Oh, and narration by multi-award winning actress Olivia Colman (The Favourite, The Crown, The Father)!

The Electrical Life of Louis Wain will land on Amazon Prime on November 5th.
