Kristen Stewart portrays a conflicted Princess Diana in new trailer for Spencer

On what would have been her 60th birthday this year, Princess Diana’s legacy continues to be cherished almost 25 years after her tragic death,

The past 18 months in particular have brought her back into the public eye, whether it be Emma Corrin’s brilliant portrayal of her in the fourth series of The Crown to the recent controversy involving THAT Martin Bashir interview.

The Princess of Wales is now the subject of a new film that deals with her bold decision to separate herself from the Royal Family. In a surprise move, American actress Kristen Stewart (Twilight Saga, Happiest Season) has taken on the lucrative role of Diana in a part that was previously played by Naomi Watts in the critical flop Diana (2013).

Entitled Spencer, the film’s new full-length trailer has premiered and gives us a glimpse of Stewart’s performance that has already generated strong buzz.

Helmed by Pablo Larraín (Jackie, Lisey’s Story) and written by Steven Knight (Eastern Promises, Peaky Blinders), the story focuses on Diana as she decides to walk away from her marriage to Prince Charles while spending the Christmas holidays with the Royals.

Stewart is joined in the film by Jack Farthing (Cilla, Poldark) as Charles plus Sean Harris (Southcliffe, Mission: Impossible – Fallout), Amy Manson (The White Princess, The Nevers), Sally Hawkins (Happy-Go-Lucky, The Shape of Water) and Timothy Spall (Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, Mr. Turner).

Spencer is set for release in the UK on November 5th.
