Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby pushed back to summer 2013

A touch of glamour has been lost in the run-up to Christmas as tonight’s news has revealed that Baz Luhrmann’s glitzy adaptation of the romantic novel The Great Gatsby has been pushed back several months to summer 2013.

Warner Bros’s Domestic Distribution President Dan Fellman confirmed the news in a statement and insisted that the final result would be worth the wait.

“Based on what we’ve seen, Baz Luhrmann’s incredible work is all we anticipated and so much more. It truly brings Fitzgerald’s American classic to life in a completely immersive, visually stunning and exciting way. We think moviegoers of all ages are going to embrace it, and it makes sense to ensure this unique film reaches the largest audience possible.”

The news comes as a big surprise to many people particularly Oscar fans who felt the film stood a great chance in some of the major categories but that possibility has now been thwarted by the turn of events.

Based on F Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel, the new adaptation stars Leonardo DiCaprio (Titanic, The Departed), Carey Mulligan (An Education, Shame), Tobey Maguire (Spiderman, Seabiscuit) and Joel Edgerton (Warrior) as the key players of the story.

Guess it’s down to Anna Karenina or Les Miserables for the colourful tech awards then.
