As one of the most prominent directors in Hollywood, Wes Anderson has always done a commendable job of gathering scores of big name stars to appear in his films.
The Oscar-nominated writer and director of The Royal Tenenbaums (2001), Moonrise Kingdom (2012) and The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) has once again put together a strong ensemble for his latest comedy-drama, The French Dispatch.
Scheduled to be out this summer, the film’s official trailer has premiered and once again promises the usual mix of distinctive visuals and quirky characters.
Described as a “love letter to journalists”, the plot centres on the staff of a European publication as they decide to publish a memorial edition highlighting the three best stories from the last decade: an artist sentenced to life imprisonment, student riots and a kidnapping resolved by a chef.
Oscar-winning actors Benicio del Toro (Traffic, Sicario), Adrien Brody (The Pianist, The Grand Budapest Hotel), Tilda Swinton (Michael Clayton, Doctor Strange), Frances McDormand (Moonrise Kingdom, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) headline the film along with Léa Seydoux (Blue is the Warmest Color, No Time To Die), Timothée Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name, Little Women), Lyna Khoudri (The Blessed, Luna), Jeffrey Wright (Syriana, Westworld), Mathieu Amalric (The Diving Bell & the Butterfly, Quantum of Solace), Stephen Park (Falling Down, Fargo), Bill Murray (Lost in Translation, Moonrise Kingdom) and Owen Wilson (The Royal Tenenbaums, Midnight in Paris).
There are also appearances from other Anderson regulars including Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan, Isle of Dogs), Edward Norton (Moonrise Kingdom, Birdman), Willem Dafoe (The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Lighthouse), Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird, Little Women), Jason Schwartzman (Rushmore, The Darjeerling Limited), Tony Revolori (The Grand Budapest Hotel, Spider-Man: Far From Home), Bob Balaban (Gosford Park, Moonrise Kingdom) and Anjelica Huston (Prizzi’s Honor, The Royal Tenenbaums).
Finally, there are more prominent names to feature too including Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men, The Handmaid’s Tale), Lois Smith (Five Easy Pieces, Lady Bird), Christoph Waltz (Inglorious Basterds, Django Unchained), Cécile de France (Hereafter, The New Pope), Guillaume Gallienne (Marie Antoinette, Me, Myself and Mum), Rupert Friend (Homeland, The Death of Stalin), Henry Winkler (Happy Days, Barry), Hippolyte Girardot (Yuki & Nina, Patrick Melrose), Alex Lawther (Black Mirror: Shut Up and Dance, The End of the F***ing World) and Morgane Polanski (Vikings, The Wife)
The French Dispatch will be released in the UK on August 28.
