1993 was the year that dinosaurs made an emphatic return to the big-screen when Steven Spielberg unleashed his prehistoric action-adventure Jurassic Park upon audiences, leading to the film becoming one of the biggest blockbusters of all time.
After two disappointing sequels, the franchise looked to have come to a halt though for the past decade Spielberg and his team have tried to get a fourth film made but to no avail. Fortunately, things are looking up now following the official announcement of the new installment which has finally added a director.
Announcing via Twitter, producer Frank Marshall has revealed that Safety Not Guaranteed director Colin Trevorrow will be the man behind the camera on the long-awaited sequel.
“Thrilled to have director on JP4, Colin Trevorrow, an exciting young filmmaker who understands and respects the world that is Jurassic Park.”
The move is a bold one given that Safety was Trevorrow’s first film and there will be some audiences who feel that his lack of previous work could prove difficult when making the blockbuster. However he should gain valuable support and influence in the production department from the experience of Marshall and Spielberg.
There has also been talk of original actors Sam Neill (Dr. Alan Grant), Laura Dern (Elle Satler) and Jeff Goldblum (Ian Malcolm) returning but there is nothing official on that topic.
Jurassic Park 4 is supposedly set for release on June 13th 2014.
