Awards season is beginning to take shape this week after the Golden Globes unveiled their nominees on Monday.
The Screen Actors Guild have now offered up their own group of contenders, across film and television, with two particular efforts taking centre stage.
On the cinematic side of things, the comedic drama Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri leads the way with four nods, including the coveted Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture accolade.
Additionally, central star Frances McDormand is up for Leading Female Actor while co-stars Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell are both in contention for Supporting Male Actor.
The indie comedy Lady Bird is another standout nominee after scoring three mentions for Outstanding Performance by a Cast, as well as acting noms for Saoirse Ronan (Leading Female Actor) and Laurie Metcalf (Supporting Female Actor).
The rest of the Outstanding Performance by a Cast line-up is contested by the indie comedy The Big Sick, the psychological horror Get Out and the race-relations drama Mudbound.
In the acting categories, British actresses Dame Judi Dench (Victoria & Abdul) and Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water) duel it out for the Leading Female Actor gong along with Australian star Margot Robbie (I, Tonya).
Meanwhile, Gary Oldman (Darkest Hour) and James Franco (The Disaster Artist) are both nominated in the Leading Male Actor field for their respective portrayals of real-life figures Winston Churchill and Tommy Wiseau.
The pair are joined in the line-up by previous category winner Denzel Washington (Roman J Israel, Esq.) and rising stars Timothée Chalamet (Call Me by Your Name) and Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out).
Elsewhere, Supporting Male Actor is contested by Willem Dafoe (The Florida Project), Richard Jenkins (The Shape of Water) and surprise nominee Steve Carell (Battle of the Sexes) while the Supporting Female Actor line-up sees experienced names like Allison Janney (I, Tonya) and Holly Hunter (The Big Sick) go head-to-head with Thai actress Hong Chau (Downsizing) and musician-turned-actress Mary J. Blige (Mudbound).
Finally, Christopher Nolan’s war epic Dunkirk and comic-book flicks Logan and Wonder Woman battle it out for the Outstanding Stunt Ensemble prize, along with the thriller Baby Driver and the sci-fi action sequel War for the Planet of the Apes.
The 24th Screen Actors Guild Awards will take place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on 29 January 2017.

In the television fields, Netflix duo Stranger Things and GLOW, and HBO’s Big Little Lies have taken centre stage with four nominations each.
In the case of Stranger Things, the second series of the 1980s-based fantasy is once again in contention for the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series award after winning it last season.
Additionally, teenage star Millie Bobby Brown scores another Female Actor (Drama) nod for her role as telekinetic heroine Eleven, while co-star David Harbour is recognised in Male Actor (Drama) for playing Chief Jim Hopper.
Stranger Things competes in a strong Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble line-up alongside fellow Netflix drama The Crown, HBO’s Game of Thrones, Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale and NBC’s This is Us.
After underperforming with the Golden Globes on Monday, Game of Thrones fared better with SAG by snaring a Male Actor (Drama) nod for cast member Peter Dinklage, and has yet another shot at winning the Outstanding Stunt Ensemble gong.
In the acting categories, British star Claire Foy is looking to retain the Female Actor (Drama) prize for the second year in a row for her returning role as royal monarch Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown. However, she faces stern competition from Laura Linney (Ozark), Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale) and Robin Wright (House of Cards).
Meanwhile, the Male Actor (Drama) line-up sees the aforementioned Dinklage and Harbour lock horns with Jason Bateman (Ozark), Sterling K. Brown (This is Us) and Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul).
Elsewhere, GLOW dominates the comedy fields with a quartet of nominations, including a place on the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series shortlist.
However, the female wrestling sitcom faces a tough task of prevailing against three-time category winner Orange is the New Black, as well as ABC’s Black-ish and HBO duo Curb Your Enthusiasm and Veep.
Additionally, GLOW stars Alison Brie and Marc Maron are both in contention for acting honours, while the series also scored a nod in the Outstanding Stunt Ensemble line-up.
In a tough Female Actor (Comedy) field, Brie finds herself up against previous winners Uzo Aduba (Orange is the New Black) and Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Veep) as well as Grace and Frankie duo Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin.
Meanwhile, Maron is one of six men nominated for Lead Actor (Comedy) and is joined by previous victors Sean Hayes (Will & Grace) and William H. Macy (Shameless).
The rest of the category is contested by Anthony Anderson (Black-ish), Aziz Ansari (Master of None), and returning contender Larry David (Curb Your Enthusiasm).
Finally, Big Little Lies followed up its impressive nominations haul with the Golden Globes by receiving four acting nods in the miniseries lists.
Star trio Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern are all up for Female Actor (Television Movie or Limited Series), and are joined by Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon’s portrayals of Hollywood battleaxes Joan Crawford and Bette Davis in FX’s Feud: Bette and Joan.
Meanwhile, fellow Big Little Lies cast member Alexander Skarsgård is nominated for Male Actor (TV Movie/Limited Series) and faces stern competition from the likes of Robert De Niro (The Wizard of Lies) and Benedict Cumberbatch, for his reprised role as Sherlock Holmes in Sherlock: The Lying Detective.
The 24th Screen Actors Guild Awards will take place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Sunday 29 January 2017.
