The most dishonourable awards in film have been handed out prior to tomorrow night’s Oscar ceremony and it was a bad day for The Emoji Movie.
The emoji-based animation, which features the voices of T.J Miller, James Corden and Patrick Stewart, won four accolades including the coveted Worst Picture award ahead of the likes of Baywatch, Fifty Shades Darker and Transformers: The Last Knight.
The film also picked up Worst Director for Anthony Leonidis as well as Worst Screenplay and Worst Screen Combo (for Any Two Obnoxious Emojis).
Elsewhere, Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise had the misfortune of winning his third Razzie, this time in Worst Actor for his role as heroic soldier Nick Morton in the disappointing reboot The Mummy.
Two Oscar-winning stars clinched awards in the supporting categories as Mel Gibson and Kim Basinger won for their performances in Daddy’s Home 2 and Fifty Shades Darker respectively. Fifty Shades also took home Worst Remake / Rip-Off or Sequel with Baywatch and Transformers both walking away empty-handed.
Finally, male actor Tyler Perry scooped his second Worst Actress win for his dual performances in the comedy flop Boo!: A Medea Halloween ahead of big names like Dakota Johnson and Jennifer Lawrence.
