Plot details for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 revealed with Paul Giamatti confirmed as Rhino

After swinging its way to success last year, the revival of the Spider-Man film series is set to continue with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 set to begin filming this week.

According to Comic Book Movie, Columbia Pictures have unveiled the plot synopsis for the film along with a valuable (and rather bizarre) casting which is bound to make this follow-up bigger and bolder.

“In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough, Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.”

As reported a couple of weeks ago, Electro will not be the only villain appearing in the sequel with confirmation finally given that Oscar-nominated actor Paul Giamatti (Sideways, Cinderella Man) will star in the role of the film’s second villain, the Rhino.
Colm Feore (The Borgias, Thor) has also been cast with no official role given to him yet though the rumours suggest he could play Norman Osborn (previously played in Sam Raimi’s original trilogy by Willem Dafoe).
Set to be filmed in New York for the first time in Spidey’s cinematic career, the Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be released in cinemas on May 2nd 2014.
