Naomi Watts portrays the Princess of Wales in official trailer for Diana

British biopics that focus on royalty and politics seem to be trending well at the moment with success coming for the likes of The Queen (2006), The King’s Speech (2010) and The Iron Lady (2011).

The next prestige name to be given the biopic treatment is the tragic monarch Princess Diana, whose life is about to be immortalised on the big-screen almost sixteen years after her shocking death in 1997.

Oscar-nominated actress Naomi Watts (Mulholland Drive, The Impossible) portrays the much-loved Princess of Wales in the upcoming biopic Diana, with a new full-length trailer being released.

Directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel (Downfall), the film looks at the romance between Diana and her secret lover, Dr Hasnat Khan with their affair being exposed by the media in the lead-up to her death.

Naveen Andrews (Lost, The Brave One) plays the role of Khan with support also coming from Cas Anvar (Source Code, Argo) as Dodi Fayed, Geraldine James (Made in Dagenham, Sherlock Holmes) as Oonagh Toffolo, Michael Byrne (Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Braveheart) as Christiaan Barnard and Douglas Hodge (Only Fools and Horses, Robin Hood) as Paul Burrell.

Diana will be released in the UK on September 20th.
