Music has always been a triumphant factor for Disney over the years whether it be their animated films or the live-action productions e.g. Mary Poppins, Enchanted.
Their next venture is that of Into the Woods, the big-screen adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s hit musical which is due to screen after Christmas.
No stranger to singing in her films, three-time Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep (Sophie’s Choice, Mamma Mia, The Iron Lady) portrays the devious Witch alongside an all-star cast in the fantasy film which premiered its full-length trailer yesterday.
Directed by musical filmmaker Rob Marshall (Chicago, Nine), the plot sees Streep’s Witch attempt to teach important lessons to various characters of popular children’s stories including Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk and Rapunzel.
British actors Emily Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada, Edge of Tomorrow) and James Corden (Gavin and Stacey, One Chance) play the Baker couple who are the heroes of the story alongside Chris Pine (Star Trek, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit), Anna Kendrick (Up in the Air, Pitch Perfect), Christine Baranski (The Grinch, The Good Wife) and the unmistakable Johnny Depp (Edward Scissorhands, Pirates of the Caribbean series) as the Wolf.
The film will be released in the UK on January 9th.
