Kate Winslet falls for escaped convict Josh Brolin in official trailer for Labor Day

Twenty years since her big-screen debut in Peter Jackson’s Heavenly Creatures, Kate Winslet has embarked on an incredible career which has included a leading role in one of the highest grossing films of all time as well as major awards success.

But since landing an Oscar win (at the sixth attempt!) for her performance in The Reader (2008), the British actresses’ screen-work has been hit and miss particularly with a recent appearance in the dreadful Movie 43. Fortunately she looks to be back on song with her latest role in the upcoming drama Labor Day which has released its official trailer.

Directed by Jason Reitman (Juno, Up in the Air), the film stars Winslet as single mother Adele Wheeler whose life has been turned upside down following the departure of her husband. But when her teenage son Henry encounters an escaped criminal, she reluctantly allows the man to stay at her home. Over the course of Labor Weekend 1967, she and her son begin to learn more about the man and his past which leads to her falling in love with him despite the risks of being caught by police.

Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men, Milk) plays the male lead with Tobey Maguire (Spiderman trilogy, Seabiscuit) portraying the older version of Henry.

The film will be released in the UK on February 7th.
