Joaquin Phoenix portrays military leader Napoleon Bonaparte in official trailer for Ridley Scott’s Napoleon

An official trailer has arrived for the much-anticipated Apple TV+ release Napoleon.

Directed by renowned filmmaker Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator), the historical epic sees Oscar-winning star Joaquin Phoenix (Walk the Line, Joker) tackle the iconic role of feared military leader Napoleon Bonaparte.

The plot focuses on Napoleon’s swift, ruthless climb to emperor, as well as his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Joséphine.

Oscar-nominated British actress Vanessa Kirby (The Crown, Pieces of a Woman) co-stars as the future Empress alongside Tahar Rahim (A Prophet, The Mauritanian), Matthew Needham (House of the Dragon, Great Expectations), Ben Miles (The Crown, The Capture), Youssef Kerkour (Home, House of Gucci), Paul Rhys (Chaplin, A Discovery of Witches), John Hollingworth (1917, Rebecca), Edouard Philipponnat (The Runner, House of Gucci), and Ludivine Sagnier (Swimming Pool, Lupin).

Scott will be hoping for better fortunes with this particular historical flick after the box-office disappointment of his previous epic The Last Duel (2021).

Napoleon will arrive in UK cinemas on 22 November and will be available to stream on Apple TV+ at a later date.
