Ana de Armas portrays tragic Hollywood star Marilyn Monroe in official trailer for Blonde

It’s hard to believe that this year marks SIXTY years since the shocking death of Hollywood legend Marilyn Monroe.

The glamorous yet tragic star of films like The Seven Year Itch (1955) and Some Like It Hot (1959) has been the subject of a number of big-screen outings, including Norma Jean & Me (1996) and My Week with Marilyn (2011).

However, a new film from Netflix is set to offer an alternative, yet bleak perspective of Monroe’s difficult life with Golden Globe-nominated actress Ana de Armas (Knives Out, No Time to Die) taking on the iconic role.

Entitled Blonde, the big-screen adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates’s best-selling novel has released a tense new trailer that features Monroe’s iconic ballad “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend”.

Helmed by Andrew Dominik (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Killing Me Softly), the film depicts Monroe’s volatile childhood as Norma Jeane, through her rise to stardom and romantic entanglements. However, the narrative will blur the lines of fact and fiction to explore the widening split between her public and private selves.

Ana is joined in the biopic by Oscar-winner Adrien Brody (The Pianist, The Grand Budapest Hotel), Bobby Cannavale (Boardwalk Empire, Blue Jasmine), Garret Dillahunt (12 Years a Slave, Fear the Walking Dead), Julianne Nicholson (Black Mass, Mare of Easttown), Sara Paxton (Aquamarine, The Front Runner) and Scoot McNairy (Killing Me Softly, Narcos: Mexico).

Blonde will arrive at Netflix on 23 September.
