As Star Wars fans prepare for the arrival of The Last Jedi in December, there is some bad news for the next sequel of the sci-fi phenomenon.
Disney and Lucasfilm have confirmed today that Jurassic World and The Book of Henry director Colin Trevorrow will NOT be helming Episode IX.
In a joint statement, the two studios said:
“Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on Star Wars: Episode IX.
Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon.”
The news comes just a few months after another Star Wars project lost its directors when Christopher Miller and Phil Lord left the Han Solo spin-off film due to creative differences, with Oscar-winner Ron Howard ultimately taking over the production.
Scheduled for release on May 24th 2019, Episode 9 will conclude the new trilogy of films that began with JJ Abrams’ The Force Awakens (2015) and will continue with Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi at the end of this year.
