The future of Star Trek 4 is in doubt following the disappointing news that two of its stars had dropped out through money issues.
Chris Pine, who played the iconic role of a young Captain James T. Kirk in three films, has walked away from negotiations to star in the fourth film of the rebooted franchise.
Furthermore, Chris Hemsworth has also opted out of reprising his role as Kirk’s long-dead father George who appeared in the prologue of Star Trek (2009).
It is understood that both actors were asked to take pay cuts by Paramount Pictures which led to their decisions.
Producers were reportedly waiting to lock down both Pine and Hemsworth before negotiating deals for supporting cast members like Zachary Quinto (Spock), Zoe Saldaña (Uhura) and Simon Pegg (Scotty) which now leaves the project up in the air.
Helmed by female director S.J Clarkson (Jessica Jones) and produced by J.J Abrams, Star Trek 4’s plot was set to focus on Kirk and the Starship Enterprise crew travelling through time and joining forces with George.
