World of Warcraft film to be directed by Duncan Jones

As he continues to raise his profile with innovative films, Duncan Jones is now set to tackle his biggest project yet in the form of World of Warcraft.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that the British director of Moon and Source Code will direct the big-screen adaptation of the popular computer game which features elements of both fantasy and sci-fi. It will also be produced by Legendary Films who are collaborating on the project with game companies Blizzard and Atlas Entertainment.

Jones, who is also the son of renowned singer David Bowie, took to Twitter to talk about the news.

“So the gauntlet was thrown down ages ago: Can you make a proper MOVIE of a video game? I’ve always said its possible. Got to DO it now! ;)”

The film was originally set to be made by Sam Raimi (Evil Dead, Spiderman) but after he dropped out, Jones benefited. A writer has already been picked in the form of Charles Leawitt (Blood Diamond).

Warcraft is scheduled for release in 2015.
