Wooden puppet Pinocchio gets the Disney live-action treatment in new trailer for Pinocchio

Ahead of its release on Disney+ in the next few weeks, a new full-length trailer has landed for Pinocchio.

The fantasy adventure is the latest Disney classic to receive the live-action treatment over eighty years after the original animated classic debuted in cinemas.

Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future trilogy, Who Framed Roger Rabbit), the film is a retelling of the beloved tale of Pinocchio, a wooden puppet who embarks on a thrilling adventure to become a real boy.

Having worked with Zemeckis on Forrest Gump (1994), Cast Away (2000) and The Polar Express (2004), two-time Oscar-winning star Tom Hanks (Philadelphia, Toy Story series) portrays Pinocchio’s kindly father Geppetto alongside young starlet Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (The Haunting of Bly Manor, Son of a Critch) as our wooden hero.

Additionally, the rest of the film’s starry cast includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt (3rd Rock from the Sun, The Dark Knight Rises) as Jiminy Cricket, Cynthia Erivo (Widows, Harriet) as the Blue Fairy, Keegan-Michael Key (Key and Peele, The Lion King) as “Honest” John, Giuseppe Battiston (Bread and Tulips, Perfect Strangers) as Stromboli, Lewin Lloyd (Judy, His Dark Materials) as Lampwick  and Luke Evans (The Hobbit trilogy, Beauty and the Beast) as The Coachman

There are also a trio of new characters in the latest adaptation including Lorraine Bracco (Goodfellas, The Sopranos) as Sofia the Seagull, Kyanne Lamaya (The Dumping Ground) as Fabiana and Jaquita Ta’Le (Shameless, Good Trouble) as Sabina.

Despite not being released in cinemas, Pinocchio will premiere on Disney+ from 8 September.
