Tom Cruise’s Maverick retains the need for speed in final trailer for Top Gun: Maverick

Cinephiles will find it hard to believe that it’s now been over 35(!) years since the hit action flick Top Gun (1986) took our breath away. Yes, I have just quoted that Oscar-winning track from Berlin….

It’s long-awaited sequel Top Gun: Maverick was all set for release in 2020 with leading man Tom Cruise heading back into the danger zone as heroic fighter pilot Maverick.

However, the COVID pandemic interfered with the film’s release delayed more than once, to the dismay of the fans. But as things stand, the follow-up is now set to make its big-screen bow in May.

A final trailer has officially landed and sees Cruise comfortably settling back into one of his most iconic roles…

Directed by Joseph Kosinski (TRON: Legacy, Oblivion), the plot sees Maverick now a flight instructor at the Top Gun school as he finds himself mentoring the son of his old friend Goose (who died in the original film).

Miles Teller (Whiplash, War Dogs) plays Bradley Bradshaw with the other big additions to the cast including Oscar-winner Jennifer Connelly (Labyrinth, A Beautiful Mind), Jon Hamm (Mad Men, Baby Driver), Glen Powell (Everybody Wants Some!, Hidden Figures) and Ed Harris (Apollo 13, Westworld).

Along with Cruise, fellow Top Gun veteran Val Kilmer reprises his role as Iceman, though there are no appearances at all for Kelly McGillis (Charlie) or Tim Robbins (Merlin).

Top Gun: Maverick FINALLY takes flight when it is released in the UK on 27 May.
