Doctor Strange encounters further trouble with the multiverse in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer

2021 proved to be another successful year for Marvel with the release of multiple films (including new releases Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Eternals) and spin-off television shows (including Wandavision, Loki and Hawkeye).

After getting himself into trouble during the spectacular Spider-Man outing No Way Home, Doctor Strange now takes centre stage in a follow-up film to his debut feature from 2017.

Entitled Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness, the comic-book flick’s trailer has finally landed after it originally aired at the end of No Way Home.

The plot sees Strange’s decision to open up the doorway to the multiverse backfire as alternative versions of himself threaten to destroy humanity.

Once again, Benedict Cumberbatch reprises his role as Strange alongside the likes of Chiwetel Ejiofor (as Karl Mordo), Benedict Wong (as Wong), Michael Stuhlbarg (as Dr. Nicodemus West) and Rachel McAdams (as Christine Palmer).

After her recent troubles in the Marvel series Wandavision, Wanda Maximoff has a key role in this outing and is played once again by Elizabeth Olsen.

Additionally, Xochitl Gomez (Shadow Wolves, The Baby-Sitters Club) is the high-profile newcomer to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

With original director Scott Derrickson not involved in the sequel, renowned filmmaker Sam Raimi makes his return to the Marvel series after previously helming the Tobey Maguire-starring Spider-Man trilogy (2002-07).

Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness is scheduled for release in the UK on May 5.
