Tom Cruise battles a resurrected mummy in gripping trailer for The Mummy

With a remarkable CV of action films to his name which include Top Gun, Edge of Tomorrow and the Mission Impossible series, Tom Cruise is now going toe-to-toe with a monster in his next kick-ass outing.

The Hollywood superstar is headlining the upcoming action-horror flick The Mummy which will be the first of many monster films that are being rebooted by Universal Studios.

The official trailer can now be seen below:

Directed by Alex Kurtzman (People Like Us), the plot sees Cruise play a military man who is tasked with stopping an ancient princess from spreading terror.

Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Star Trek Beyond) will portray the mummified monster, a role previously played by horror film legends Boris Karloff (in the 1932 version) and the late Christopher Lee (1959 version).

The lovely Annabelle Wallis (Peaky Blinders, Grimsby) also appears as Cruise’s love interest while Oscar-winner Russell Crowe (Gladiator, Cinderella Man, Les Miserables) stars as Doctor Jekyll.

Jake Johnson (Let’s Be Cops, New Girl) and Courtney B. Vance (Flashforward, The People v O.J. Simpson) complete the supporting actor lineup.

This retelling is not linked to the 1999 blockbuster starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz but is related to Universal’s previous adaptations from 1932 and 1959.

The Mummy will be released in the UK on June 9th 2017.
