With a remarkable directing career stretching back over forty years, Martin Scorsese is continuing to shine as one of cinema’s greatest filmmakers.
The Oscar-winning director of Taxi Driver (1976), Raging Bull (1980), Goodfellas (1990), The Departed (2006) and The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) is set to unveil his longest-running film to date in the historical epic Silence.
Following delays in its production, the film’s official trailer has finally premiered online.
Based on the novel by Shûsaku Endô, the plot sees Andrew Garfield (The Social Network, Hacksaw Ridge) and Adam Driver (Girls, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) play two Portuguese priests who travel to Japan in the 17th century. However the pair soon encounter violence and persecution whilst searching for their mentor.
Touted as a contender for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar, Liam Neeson (Schindler’s List, Taken trilogy) co-stars as veteran priest Father Cristóvão Ferreira along with Ciaran Hinds (Above Suspicion, Game of Thrones).
Hoping to make a late claim for Oscar success, Silence will be released in the UK on New Year’s Day 2017.
