The Crawley family travel to France to uncover a mystery in official trailer for Downton Abbey: A New Era

Fans of Downton Abbey will be pleased to know that the beloved period drama is set to return for another cinematic outing later this year.

Following in the footsteps of its 2019 predecessor, Downton Abbey: A New Era is the second big-screen outing to follow the successful ITV series that aired between 2010 and 2015.

Loyal followers have now been treated to a new trailer that shows some of their favourite characters back in action to continue the Downton legacy….

Written by creator Julian Fellowes and directed by Simon Curtis (My Week with Marilyn, Goodbye Christopher Robin), the plot sees the Crawley family visit the South of France to find out why the Dowager Countess has been gifted a villa.

As expected, Hugh Bonneville (Robert Crawley), Elizabeth McGovern (Cora Crawley), Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary Crawley), Laura Carmichael (Lady Edith Crawley) and Dame Maggie Smith (Violet Crawley) are set to return alongside original cast members Jim Carter (Charles Carson), Brendan Coyle (John Bates), Kevin Doyle (Joseph Molesley), Joanne Froggatt (Anna Bates), Robert James-Collier (Thomas Barrow), Allen Leech (Tom Branson), Phyllis Logan (Mrs. Hughes), Sophie McShera (Daisy Mason), Tuppence Middleton (Lucy Smith), Lesley Nicol (Mrs. Patmore), Imelda Staunton (Maud Bagshaw), and Penelope Wilton (Isobel Crawley).

Additionally, the film welcomes some new faces including Hugh Dancy (Hannibal, Homeland), Laura Haddock (The Inbetweeners Movie, Guardians of the Galaxy), Nathalie Baye (Catch Me if You Can, Laurence Anyways) and Dominic West (The Wire, Pride).

Downton Abbey: A New Era will arrive in UK cinemas on 29 April.
