Tom Hanks’s Colonel Parker guides a young Elvis Presley to stardom in official trailer for Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis

In recent years, music-based biopics have been the trend with James Brown, NWA, Queen, Elton John, Billie Holiday and Aretha Franklin amongst the subject of a number of hit films.

The next recipient to get the treatment is the ‘King’ himself, as Austin Butler (The Carrie Diaries, Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood) steps into the iconic shoes of the legendary singer Elvis Presley.

Simply entitled Elvis, the film’s official trailer promises a little less conversation and a little more action….

No stranger to extravagant music-based films, Baz Luhrmann (Strictly Ballroom, Moulin Rouge!) directs the biopic which focuses on Elvis’s complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager Colonel Tom Parker over a twenty-year period.

Two-time Oscar-winning star Tom Hanks (Philadelphia, Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan) tackles the key role of Parker with additional support coming from Olivia DeJonge (The Visit, Will) as Priscilla Presley, Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Road, The Power of the Dog) as Jimmie Rogers, David Wenham (Lord of the Rings trilogy, Australia) as Hank Snow, Dacre Montgomery (Stranger Things, Power Rangers) as Steve Binder, Luke Bracey (Point Break, Hacksaw Ridge) as Jerry Schilling, Richard Roxburgh (Moulin Rouge!, Van Helsing) as Vernon Presley and Kelvin Harrison Jr. (Moonlight, Cyrano) as B.B. King.

Audiences will no doubt have suspicious minds about the film when it is released in the UK on 24 June.
