Steven Spielberg pays homage to his fragile childhood in The Fabelmans trailer

As one of cinema’s greatest directors, Steven Spielberg has achieved it all.

From Jaws and Indiana Jones, to E.T. and Schinder’s List, the legendary filmmaker has delivered a wide variety of stories that have charmed and thrilled audiences….not to mention a few tears along the way!

For his latest effort, the two-time Oscar-winner has opted to present a semi-autobiographical account of his childhood via his new film, The Fabelmans. As expected, a poignant trailer has landed and explores various themes about family that have been incorporated in some of his greatest works.

The plot follows a young man named Sammy who discovers a shattering family secret and explores how the power of films can help him see the truth.

Newcomer Mateo Zoryna Francis-Deford and Gabriel LaBelle (The Predator, American Gigolo) play the younger and older version of Sammy alongside Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood, The Batman) and four-time Oscar nominee Michelle Williams (Brokeback Mountain, My Week With Marilyn) as his parents.

The rest of the ensemble includes Seth Rogen (Knocked Up, Pam & Tommy), Jeannie Berlin (The Heartbreak Kid, Succession), Julia Butters (Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood, The Gray Man), Sam Rechner (Ruby’s Choice) and Judd Hirsch (Taxi, Ordinary People).

As expected, legendary composer (and frequent Spielberg collaborator) John Williams (Jaws, E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial, Jurassic Park) is involved with the film’s score.

Touted as a major awards contender, The Fabelmans will be released in the UK on 23 November.
