Last year, Quvenzhane Wallis made Oscar history by becoming the youngest actor to be nominated for her leading performance in the indie-darling Beasts of the Southern Wild.
But the ten year old’s post-Oscar career looks set to begin dismally with her latest role as lovable (and musically-talented) orphan Annie in the modern remake of the 1980s family musical Annie.
Directed by Will Gluck (Easy A, Friends with Benefits) and written by award-winning actress/screenwriter Emma Thompson (Howard’s End, Saving Mr Banks), the new film, which also stars Jamie Foxx (Ray, Django Unchained) and Cameron Diaz (There’s Something About Mary, Bad Teacher), has premiered its official trailer online.
The plot focuses on a young girl named Annie (Wallis) who lives in a run-down orphanage which is owned by cruel Miss Hannigan (Diaz). However her life changes when she meets political candidate Benjamin Shacks (Foxx). He decides to take her in to help boots his campaign but over the course of the story, he develops a strong bond with the youngster.
Real-life couple Rose Byrne (Bridesmaids, Insidious) and Bobby Cannavale (Boardwalk Empire, Blue Jasmine) also star in the musical which is better known for featuring beloved songs like “Hard-Knock Life” and “Tomorrow”.
The Annie remake will be released in the UK on February 6th 2015.
