Jodie Comer to star in apocalyptic thriller The End We Start From

After bagging her second TV BAFTA last night for the COVID drama Help, Jodie Comer has managed to land herself a new film role.

The multi-award winning star of Killing Eve (2018-22), Free Guy (2021) and The Last Duel (2021) will star in the upcoming apocalyptic thriller The End We Start From.

The Liverpudlian actress has been cast as a young mother who gets caught up in an environmental crisis that sees London submerged by floodwaters. With her newborn child in tow, the mum tries to find a way home while navigating the most challenging and apocalyptic start to motherhood.

Adapted from the critically acclaimed novel by Megan Hunter, the feminist survival story features the involvement of some strong creative talent. BAFTA-winning filmmaker Mahalia Belo (Requiem, The Long Song) will direct the project with Alice Birch (Lady Macbeth, Normal People) onboard as writer.

Producers Leah Clarke, Liza Marshall and Adam Ackland stated:

“The End We Start From is very close to our hearts. Megan’s heart-wrenching novel, and Alice’s wonderful adaptation, present a story about motherhood, separation, social and environmental upheaval, and those primal instincts in us which draw moments of joy and inspiration out of the chaos. We are incredibly excited to have Mahalia and Jodie lead this talented creative team in making what we know will be a resonant, riveting film.“

Production is scheduled to start in August as Jodie continues to commit to her ongoing role in the powerful stage drama Prima Facie. In addition, she is also due to begin work on the HBO series Big Swiss.
