Hunger Games, Twilight and Harry Potter amongst MTV Movie Award winners

The MTV audiences have cast their vote on the winners at the prestigious Movie Awards and once again there are some unworthy winners for a show which has steadily declined in recent years.

Despite The Hunger Games winning four awards, it lost out on Best Film to the critically derided Twilight: Breaking Dawn: Part I which also won Best Kiss for its main stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. It is the fourth year in a row that the fantasy series has scooped the main award despite some fantastic competition over the years including The Dark Knight, The Hangover and Avatar.

But Hunger Games did dominate the evening with its four wins including Favourite Actress (Jennifer Lawrence) and Favourite Actor (Josh Hutchinson surprisingly beating Daniel Radcliffe) as well as Best Fight (Lawrence and Hutchinson vs. Alexander Ludwig) and a controversial Best On-screen transformation win for Elizabeth Banks (ahead of Rooney Mara!).

The final Harry Potter film claimed the Best Hero award for Daniel Radcliffe and Best Cast with star Emma Watson representing them. Rom-com smash Bridesmaids had to settle for just two wins for Best Comedy Performance (Melissa McCarthy) and the Best Gut-Wrenching Moment.

Shailene Woodley won Best Breakthrough Performance for her role as George Clooney’s rebellious daughter in the Oscar-winning drama The Descendants while Jennifer Aniston beat off the much-ignored Bryce Dallas Howard in The Help to Best Dirtbag for the comedy Horrible Bosses. A classic example of whose more famous when it comes to these populist awards!

Two special achievement awards were also given out with Johnny Depp recieving the MTV Generation Award while Emma Stone claimed the MTV Trailblazer Award for her rising filmography.

Aside from award winners, there was a preview for The Dark Knight Rises which was represented by stars Christian Bale, Gary Oldman and Joseph Gordon-Levitt with Bale breaking down in tears after a clip of Heath Ledger’s Joker was shown in a montage.

The show was hosted by Russell Brand with a variety of other big names attending including Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron and Justin Bieber. The full list of winners are below:
