Fashion lover Tomasin McKenzie enters an alternative 1960s London in official trailer for Edgar Wright’s Last Night in Soho

Since the late 1990s, Edgar Wright has been responsible for a number of projects that have woven between comedy, snappy action and a passion for specific genres.

From the cult sitcom Spaced (1999) to the lauded ‘Cornetto’ trilogy (2004-13) and the action-blockbuster Baby Driver (2017), Wright has officially established himself as one of Britain’s most celebrated filmmakers.

Having struck gold with Shaun of the Dead in 2004, the Dorset-born helmer has returned to the spooky genre with his latest effort; the psychological horror Last Night in Soho.

Delayed for a year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the film’s stylish yet tense trailer has finally dropped.

Co-written by Wright and Oscar nominee Krysty Wilson-Cairns (Penny Dreadful, 1917), the plot centres on a girl with a passion for fashion design who mysteriously enters 1960s London where she meets her idol; a dazzling wannabe singer. However, the girl soon discovers that the reality is not what it seems and leads to shady consequences.

New Zealand starlet Thomasin McKenzie (Leave No Trace, Jojo Rabbit) tackles the main role of Eloise alongside the in-demand Anya Taylor-Joy (Emma, The Queen’s Gambit) as Sandy and Matt Smith (Doctor Who, The Crown) as the mysterious Jack.

Other notable cast members include Jessie Mei Li (Shadow and Bone), siblings James and Oliver Phelps (Harry Potter series) and British veterans Rita Tushingham (A Taste of Honey, Doctor Zhivago) and Terence Stamp (The Collector, Superman II).

On a more bittersweet note, the film also features the final on-screen appearances of two former Bond girls; Margaret Nolan (Goldfinger, Carry on Dick) and Dame Diana Rigg (On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Game of Thrones).

Last Night in Soho is scheduled for a UK cinema release on 29 October.
