An orphan and a green dragon forge a strong bond in Pete’s Dragon remake trailer

Nearly forty years ago, Disney released its live action adventure Pete’s Dragon (1977) but the film failed to make a big impression on audiences compared to the likes of Mary Poppins (1964) and Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971).

However the studio have opted to go down the dreaded remake route in order to give audiences a new take on the fantasy adventure.

Following the reveal of a teaser a couple of months ago, a new full length trailer has now premiered online.

Directed by David Lowery (Ain’t Them Bodies Saints), the story focuses on an orphaned boy called Pete who has spent six years living in a forest. However it emerges that he has an unlikely companion in the form of a green dragon named Elliot. The pair are befriended by a forest ranger and her father who must try to protect the dragon from a sinister individual.

Youngster Oakes Fegley (Boardwalk Empire, This is Where I Leave You) plays the main role of Pete with more experienced support coming from Bryce Dallas Howard (The Help, Jurassic World), Wes Bentley (American Beauty, Interstellar), Karl Urban (Lord of the Rings trilogy, Star Trek trilogy), Robert Redford (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Captain America: The Winter Soldier), Oona Laurence (I Smile Back, Southpaw) and Isiah Whitlock Jr (The Wire, Veep).

Pete’s Dragon will be released in the UK on August 12th.
